NURS 400 Nursing Research and Evidence-based Practice:

First introduce yourself to the class. Tell us a little about your experience if any with
research and/or evidence-based practice.

Next  give a brief description of a current Nursing Practice concern you would like to
address in this class.

Now you will build an original clinical question targeted to solve the current nursing
practice concern you discussed in item 2. This will be done using the PICOT format as
demonstrated in assigned readings (chapter 2 – use the intervention PICOT template for
this course) and my PPT lecture in module 1 on Building your PICOT question Download
Building your PICOT question. You will need to download the PPT to hear the narration.
Remember that PICOT questions are not your project, but rather part of your search
strategy. The PICOT will help you identify the key words you will use to search the
databases next week effectively and efficiently for relevant literature.
4. After posting your own clinical PICOT question to the discussion board, respond to two
classmates. This peer assessment is intended to develop your critiquing skills, foster a
“spirit of inquiry,” and improve your own ability to design clinical questions. Give your
classmates feedback on areas to improve their PICOT format. Then suggest how they
might alter their inquiry in order to find meaningful evidence that can change nursing
practice.
Once our discussion board is finished, and after considering discussion board suggestions by
your classmates and I, you will submit your final PICOT question for grading. This will be the
basis of your major writing assignment.
Initial post due 3/7/25 and 2 responses to classmates due by 3/9/25. Please note that if I
pose a question to you and you provide a substantive response, it can count toward one
of the required classmate responses.
